Resources for Businesses

This page has direct links to the resources that are discussed or mentioned in my free e-mail courses.  These are affiliate links, so if you click on them and end up purchasing, I’ll get a commission.  If you’re interested in having me set up the resource for you or referring you to someone competent, I can do that…but sign up for the e-mail course first.

Webhosting

Every business needs a website eventually.  If you’ve never started one before the choices can be overwhelming.  There are a huge number of companies, and a large number of plan options.  Ultimately, if you’re just starting out, I recommend StableHost.  They are an outstanding company, with an excellent reputation.  As your business grows, they are one of the few webhosts that can scale with you affordably as your business grows. Most importantly, they won’t penalize you for being successful.

Either of their either their Unlimited Starter or Unlimited Pro packages should be fine for a new business starting out.  Use the code, “NurseOperated” for 40% off your first payment.

E-mail Service Provider

One of the most important things you can do in business is develop an e-mail list, but you can’t just add people to your Outlook or Gmail address book.  If you do, you will be blacklisted as a spammer.  Moreover, thanks to federal legislation, businesses must comply with certain rules.  To ensure that you don’t get blacklisted and that you stay on the right side of the law, you should use an e-mail service provider (ESP).  They will handle subscriptions and unsubscribing for you and make sure that your e-mails meet the requirements of the law.

But wait…there’s more.  In addition to the basic list building. ESPs can also automate your business.  For example, my free e-mail courses are automatically sent to you when you sign up.  I did the work once, and I don’t have to do anything if 10 people or 10,000 people sign up.

There are several different ESPs out there, but for a small business, I think there’s only two worth mentioning.  The first is ConvertKit, and the one I use and recommend.  The second is Mailchimp.  The reason Mailchimp is mentioned is that you can build a list of up to 500 people for free, but you won’t get any of the automation features for that free price.  Additionally, everything is harder in Mailchimp.  So if you’re doing it yourself, or you’re paying me to do it, use ConvertKit.  In the end, you’ll save money.

Sales Funnel

A sales funnel is an organized way to take a customer from first contact to first sale to back end sale.  Creating funnels can be daunting as most website software (including) WordPress are not designed with funnels in mind.  I will be putting up a course on sales funnels soon, but for now, a simple funnel could be advertisement sends leads to a squeeze page (a page dedicated to  signing up for an e-mail).  Then a series of e-mails are sent educating the lead about how your product or service can help them solve their problems.  At the end, the person is offered the opportunity to buy the product or service.  But sales funnels can be much more sophisticated with upsells and downsells and one time offers.

Sales funnel software makes the process of creating funnels…well, easy isn’t exactly the right word…but easier.  I recommend ClickFunnels.  If all you want to do is create a couple simple funnels, you should be able to stumble through the process easy enough with just their tutorials and help.  Alternatively, I can help you design and set up the funnels for you.  On the other hand, if you want to really learn how funnels work and how to create your own or emulate competitors’ funnels, then I recommend FunnelHacks, which has about 30 hours of training videos on how to design funnels as well as how to write e-mail sequences, and drive traffic to your funnels.

Payment Processors

If you want to get paid you’ll most likely need a payment processor or payment gateway.  The big two are Paypal and Stripe.  Both integrate with ClickFunnels, and both have their advantages and disadvantages.  Personally, I think that Stripe is a little more business friendly, especially if you have memberships or recurring billing.  Either way, it’s going to cost you at least 3% of your total revenue.  But don’t let that deter you.  Ninety seven percent of $100 is still ninety seven dollars, which is a heck of a lot larger than one hundred percent of $0.

Fitness

What good does making a million dollars in business do if you lose your health in the process?  I highly recommend eating well and exercising.  Keeping your body in good health will help you be a better entrepreneur.  I recommend Kinobody fitness programs.  You can read about my fitness journey using their programs on my personal website.  I am also a fan of the Athlean-X program.  Both Kinobody and Athlean-X offer a variety of fitness programs to fit any stage of life.  Both of them have youtube channels with hundreds of videos.  Kinobody’s videos lean more toward mindset and lifestyle, whereas Athlean-X is almost exclusively how to do an exercise better or avoid injury.
